| I can't find a reasonable comparison of XviD and DivX5 on the web as people seem to be biased as all hell on the topic one way or the other. I played around with it to some degree, and really what I seem to find is that you can make both DivX and XviD look awesome or like complete shit if you are really good or don't know what you are doing respectively. They are both essentially compiled from the same source and in many cases can play files of the other type. I don't see one as inheirently better. You talk like it's night and day, but I simply disagree. Also, to really make XviD look good you have to run it in double pass mode which is insane to actually get to work. 06/21/2003-12:55am | ||

| xvid is superior to divx in quality. and yes you can use ffmpegX for dvd->xvid (you can also do divx3, mpeg4, svcd, whatever) and it even has a pretty interface 06/20/2003-11:01pm | ||

| btw I'm not sure what you read, but XviD's only advantage is that it is open source, and I'm sorry but that's just not a trump card in my book. it's still a tad behind DivX5 in compression, quality and efficiency.
